The Southern Illinois University Carbondale American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter would like to invite you to support our activities.

The SIUC student chapter of ASCE is a group of hardworking students striving to better themselves in the fields of Civil and Environmental Engineering. We aspire to achieve this goal by participating in many activities throughout the year.  Two major projects within our chapter are the ASCE Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe Competition Teams. These are annual design competitions that allow our members to participate in a wonderful hands-on learning experience. Dedication, teamwork, and leadership are qualities that cannot be taught in the classroom nor learned from a textbook. Instead, these are qualities our members strive to gain through real world construction and challenges of our competition teams.  We view these design teams as opportunities to experience real world problems while still enrolled in college. Last year, we placed first in both the Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge Competitions at regional contests. As an organization we hold ourselves to high standards, and this year we have our sights set on winning both the Regional and National Competitions in Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge. By sponsoring our teams you are assisting us in attaining our current and future goals. Furthermore, you are helping us to become better engineering professionals and future technical leaders.

These competitions are wonderful learning opportunities for our members. What our members gain from these teams goes well beyond the classroom. Along with building successful and efficient teams, we also get a chance to experience real world problems while enrolled in college. The 2017 Mid-Continent Conference is our annual regional contest. This year it is being held by the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR and will take place April 21-22, 2017. Attending the annual Mid-Continent Conference is an excellent way to represent our university and achieve our potential. Your support will allow us to accomplish our goals, while helping us better serve the profession, and the community.

As an ASCE Chapter, we also participate in many activities throughout the year within the College of Engineering. We participate in Engineering Success Week, National Engineering Week, and hold leadership positions on the Engineering Student Council. Our chapter is also always searching for guest speakers to attend our meetings who will broaden our knowledge within the field of engineering.

Thank you, and we hope to hear from you soon.
